In the afternoon before our concert, our musical director Ian Murray will be joined by Brendan Norris on double bass for another ukulele sing-along session. Together we’ll play songs chosen by Ian to suit the perfect musical pairing of ukulele and double bass. We’ll also have a go at a few simple tunes using tablature, but anyone who doesn’t want to do that will be able to strum chords. So it’s a workshop for anyone who has gone through the basics of beginner ukulele.
Bring your ukulele and a music stand. Music will be handed out on the day, but please bring Dukes of Uke Song Books 7, 8, 9 and 10 if you have them (spares will be available). Please note: This session will be in a different venue from usual - the Biggar Social Club, behind Oven’s the Butchers in Biggar High Street. All proceeds will go towards Brendan Norris to help him with his final year of study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. If you are going to the Dukes evening concert, this is an ideal opportunity for a day out in Biggar. You could even do Biggar Agricultural Show in the morning! |
Take yourselves back to March 2020. We planned a show to support a local, young double bass player who was about to embark on a course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Unfortunately, we never did perform the show due to Covid restrictions. That talented young bass player, Brendan Norris is now close to finishing his course and is heading towards a professional career. We want to support him on his journey, so we have resurrected the original show, with a few tweaks, and want to perform it for you accompanied by Brendan.
We will be playing some all time favourites as well as some new songs which will feature in 'Motown Mayhem', our show for Biggar Little Festival in October. All proceeds from the show will be gifted to Brendan. |
Callin’ out around the world, are you ready for a brand new beat? BLF’s here and the time is right for dancing in the street.

The Dukes' Musical Director Ian Murray, local bass player Alex Marfinescu and the Dukes of Uke invite you to join them in another sing along ukulele workshop. The Dukes' concert takes place later the same day so why not come for both events. This is a session for people who have been through the beginner stage with an emphasis on playing rather than on teaching. Mostly simple chords, a couple of new challenges here and there, but with useful pointers on trickier aspects. Bring a music stand if you have one plus the Dukes’ Songs Books 7, 8, 9 and 10 if you have them (copies will be available if you don’t). |
